Bike MS Breaks Records The Bike MS Southern California Ride 2008 was a tremendous success, with 1,000 cyclists and volunteers raising nearly $900,000 to date.Congratulations and thank you!
Many thanks to each and every cyclist, team, and volunteer who participated in making this year’s tour a success, especially our Century Club members and Elite Teams.
For the third year in a row Team Body & Soul Workout took the top spot, raising $185,000. Team captain Tevia Celli again earned 1st place with nearly $49,000. David Weise, Terri Rae Elmer, Eddie Monnier and Mark Freeman rounded out the top five.
Criminal Minds’ star Shemar Moore participated in the Bike MS ride for the third time. Minds’ Joe Mantegna, Paget Brewster, Kirsten Vangsness and Matthew Gray Gubler cheered Shemar on to the finish line. The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan also completed the 100-mile century ride with his team “NOW-MS Society,” named for his lifestyle brand No Opportunity Wasted.
Participants opted for one or two days of cycling, ranging from 30 to 175 miles. All cyclists enjoyed themed rest stops every 10 to 12 miles and a festival on the beach in Santa Barbara, complete with massages, an expo, and entertainment. On Sunday, more than 500 cyclists continued for a final 75-mile leg along the ocean with spectacular views, through the strawberry fields of Oxnard, back to Camarillo.
Sam’s Club and Saab participated this year as presenting sponsors, without whom this event would not be possible. From the monetary donations that help underwrite the costs of this event to the in-kind donations that helped stock rest stops and feed cyclists our sponsors’ support allows more dollars to directly support our mission to end MS. Thank you also to sponsors Soy Joy, Time Warner Cable, EMD Serono, Teva Neuroscience, Venoco and BJ’s.
