Route

Day 1
The Century.  Our signature route again starts at San Buenaventura State Beach in Ventura, CA.  After a short ride through historic downtown Ventura, the route heads north along the Ventura River Bike Path toward Lake Casitas and then west towards the first challenge of the day, the two Casitas Pass climbs.  After the 600 foot climb up East Casitas Pass you will get a well deserved water stop at the summit before plunging down into the beautiful Casitas Valley before climbing the shorter West Casitas Pass.  After a glimpse of the Pacific Ocean at the summit, the route makes a long descent toward Carpinteria.  A gentle ride along the foothills past the flower farms and nurseries leads the riders into Montecito.  From there, you will climb once again into the scenic foothills north of Santa Barbara before dropping down into Goleta.  The route then takes you south towards the ocean and Santa Barbara before heading back along the coast to the finish at Ventura and the satisfaction of having completed a challenging, but scenic ride.  With approximately 3,688 feet of elevation gain, this route is rated Extremely Difficult by the BRDAA Rating System.

The 65 Miler (Metric Century).  The 65 mile route offers many of the same challenges as the Century, but with 35 less miles.  The route duplicates the Century route over Casitas Pass and into Montecito.  From the quaint town of Montecito you will wind your way back towards Carpentaria; returning to Ventura with a flat ride down the coast.  When the day is done you will have completed a challenging, but scenic ride.  With approximately 2,267 feet of elevation gain, this route is rated Difficult by the BRDAA Rating System.

The 30 Miler.  Our 30 mile option is perfect for activity-oriented family riders.  Starting at San Buenaventura State Beach, the route goes through the quiet part of downtown Ventura to the Ventura River Bike Path.  The bike path carries no vehicle traffic and follows along the edge of the Ventura River, through wet lands and historic oil fields.  Riders take a brief rest at Lake Casitas before returning to Ventura on the bike path.  With approximately 650 feet of elevation gain, this route is rated Easy to Moderate by the BRDAA Rating System.

Day 2
The 60 Miler
.  After all the climbing and scenic hillsides of the first day, riders have earned a less challenging, but not entirely easy, ride the second day.  The second day’s route starts on the rolling terrain along the Ventura foothills past citrus orchards on the way to Santa Paula.  Turning north, the route begins an 8-mile long, 1,300 foot climb into the beautiful Upper Ojai Valley (riders who did the longer routes in 2010 will recognize this climb).  The climb is not so difficult that you cannot enjoy the scenery along the way, but don’t underestimate it; it creeps up on you.  After the quick descent on the Dennison Grade and a stop in Ojai, the route takes riders to Lake Casitas.  You will return past Lake Casitas and down the Ventura River Bike Path to the Festival in Ventura.  With approximately 2,031 feet of elevation gain, this route is rated Moderate by the BRDAA Rating System.
